Job Description

The Technology Division has an opportunity to join the team in Sydney that supports the front office areas (Portfolio Management, Trading and Risk).

This hands-on strategic position provides an opportunity to truly understand the investment process of our fundamental and systematic/quantitative portfolio managers and drive the technology solutions that ultimately provide them with a competitive edge.

The right candidate will not only be responsible for implementing these solutions but also identifying the correct balance of disruptive technologies to leverage.

This position is ideal for strong and passionate technologists who have a desire to learn the investment process for global asset managers and build/implement platform/solutions that are integral to the success of the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Partner with business stakeholders to understand needs and objectives. Act as a key liaison between the business (Investment teams, Trading, Operations, Risk) and the technology group.

Lead change programs and platform delivery across the relevant business areas

Design, development and delivery of next generation applications that leverage cutting edge technology practices and vendor systems

Drive the adoption of next-generation applications that enable business users to focus on portfolio
performance and deliver superior results.

Act as a subject matter expert and advisor on all aspects of technology to business leaders

Collaborate with vendors and technology firms to understand and harness emerging technology trends.

Collaborate effectively within a global IT environment across multiple divisions

Act as a catalyst for the local team to build skills outside of the current technological footprint

Work as a technical lead, research new technologies and methodologies

Experience and Skills:

Minimum 7 years of experience in information technology, with at least 5 years in the Finance industry

Experience in delivering front office systems/tools across a range of asset classes and investment strategies

Proven ability to manage diverse client and stakeholder relationships and to collaborate effectively with colleagues

Familiarity with modern software development and design concepts encompassing a range of languages and platforms.

Excellent analytical skills, anticipates issues and deals with them proactively

Technical Skills:

Strong Proficiency with object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C++, etc.

Experience in developing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)

Experience in cloud-based development

Strong analytical/data analysis skills and proficiency – Python knowledge preferred

Knowledge of Big Data techonlogies is a plus – Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, HDFS

APIs, Microservices

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Proven track record in forming strong, long term partnerships with business stakeholders. Understands
business needs and priorities, provides thought leadership on potential solutions and the opportunities for technology to impact the team.

Demonstrates a passion for technology innovation balanced with a pragmatic approach to developing and deploying solutions that best benefit the business

Highly collaborative, works effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and across a variety of functions.
